Roman Holiday

So its been alomost two weeks since our little weekend break in Rome, and let me tell you I miss it. I miss the views, the culture, the sun, the atmosphere and of course I miss the food!!

We were lucky enough to spend three nights away while our family looked after the two bubs.

I wrote previously about my anxiety over leaving them and that did ease thankfully but by the second day I was missing them like crazy. We faced-timed them everyday usually twice! It was great to be able to see their faces especially littlest bubs he does'nt get the concept of a phone call just yet haha.

Anyway back to the holiday..it was amazing. We arrived early morning we had a car collect us from the airport ( we felt very important haha) and we went straight to our hotel, we were too early to check in so we decided to leave the bags and head out and explore. The weather was beautiful the sun was out and it was warm but not so warm that it made walking around uncomfortable.

Our hotel was very central so we walked just about everywhere (my phone has a built in step counter so I can tell you we reached 60k steps by the 3rd day. I'm pretty sure thats the most walking I've done all year!) Everything was so close it was brilliant we had amazing restaurants on our door step, the streets were full of the most beautiful smells.

After a few hours walking around we decided to stop for lunch and found this little cafe up a side street that did Pizza by the slice you pick the pizza you want they ask you how much of it you want then they weight it and you pay according to weight. it was so good just talking about it is making me want some right now.

After lunch we headed back to the hotel to freashen up and check it out. W e were not disappointed at all. I was told not to expect too much of the hotels in Rome but our hotel was beautiful the breakfast was a buffet style, all the food was fab, our room was gorgeous and the staff were so friendly and helpful I would definitely recommend it.

We tried to get to as many tourist attractions as we could over the few days the trevi fountain, the spanish steps, the colosseum, vatican city, the mouth of truth and they were all amazing yes I did throw a coin in the Trevi fountain in the hope that the story is true and I will some day get a return trip to Rome. The history at all the attractions is just overwhelming even the lesser known attractions, we came accross a church on the way back to the hotel one of the evenings the San Marcello al corso and we decided to have a look inside . The art work was amazing, in it there is a holy crucifix which survived a fire in the 15th century which destroyed the previous structure. I'm not someone who you would call

religious but you can't help be amazed by the artwork and peacefulnes inside.

We definitley over indulged during our trip but not all our experiences were good ones. We had a beautiful meal our first night in a place called caio bella we got a free glass of persecco and our food was beautiful we both got pasta dishes this was followed by a free glass of lemoncello which by the way I'm just not able for haha but our meal the following night was not so pleasent like everywhere you get the good and the bad in all honesty I can't even remeber the name of the place but the service was terrible and the pizza was frozen which says it all really.

The weekend really just flew by and although I know that we seen loads I left feeling that there was still so much for us to see. Rome is just an amazing place I would recommend anyone to go we already cant wait to go back.
