Travelling with bubs

This time next week we will be touching down in sunny Feurtaventura, am I looking forward to it? Absolutely. Am I at all anxious about it? You better believe it. Its been a long time since I had to fly with a toddler and even then that toddler was 3, potty trained and not needing a stroller. She pulled her own little suitcase all the way to the plane she loved it. This time round we have a very determined two year old on our hands who we can't really talk round when he starts a melt down just yet, he's not potty trained and definitely still needs to use a stroller. I've asked friends and family to give me their best travel tips and heres a list of what I found most useful.Ā
Plan, plan and over plan. You can never be too prepared when travelling with a toddler.
Make up quick change nappie bags by putting a nappie and some wet wipes into a disposable nappie bag so you are not rummaging around your bag looking for everything. I have made up 5 quick change bags allowing for 1 nappie change an hour and 1 spare. A bit excessive maybe but it goes back to point number 1
Bring snacks. Now it is tempting just to throw in loads of your littleones favourite bars and crisps but do you really want to be dealing with a toddler hyped up on sugar? Why not make up some porridge fingers or pinwheels and bring one of their favourite chocolate bars just incaseš
Dress them in something comfortable and have a spare change of clothes for them in your hand luggage you never know what might happen.
Bring a portable DVD player or tablet along with some crayons and a colouring book to try and pass the time.
Show them the airport police this may come in handy if they really act up!
Check your airline. Some airlines will let you keep your buggie right up to boarding the plane, this can be a lifesaver.
Ear pain. It's a good idea to have your little one suck on something during take off and landing to prevent their ears from hurting. A lollipop or a drink in a sippy cup, cruncy snacks that need alot of chewing or their soother/dodie/pacifier (it has many names). We were not so clever and decided to wean littlest bubs off his last weekend.
Use a backpack for hand luggage so you can have both hands free.
Accept the fact that even with all your hardwork and planning your little one might just feel like being an asshole that day and scream the plane down. Making you the mom who can't control her kids. Be prepared for alot of tut tutting and judgemental looks but don't let yourself get caught up or stressed out over it. You will never see these people again (hopefully) so f**k them! You're doing a great job mama! š
